Where Minnesota wants your Schedule 1
DVS requires proof of Heavy Vehicle Use Tax for all vehicles over 54,999 pounds β Minnesota phrases the threshold that way rather than the usual "55,000 or more," though it draws the same line. Transactions run through the statewide network of deputy registrar offices.
Whichever counter you end up at, the document is the same: the Schedule 1 the IRS returns after processing your Form 2290, either manually stamped or carrying the e-file watermark. E-filing returns it within minutes, which matters when registration or a plate renewal is waiting on it.
Everything expires in February, and the plate carries two stickers
Minnesota apportioned plates expire in February each year rather than on a staggered or anniversary schedule, so the whole fleet renews together. The plate displays two stickers β a year validation sticker and a gross weight sticker β and registration is based on gross vehicle weight.
Apportioned (IRP) registration in Minnesota
If you run in two or more jurisdictions, you register through the International Registration Plan rather than as a purely intrastate vehicle. In Minnesota that is handled by DVS IRP/IFTA (Prorate) unit, e-Services for Business (651-201-7777). Proof of HVUT payment is part of the IRP application and renewal β an apportioned account cannot add a taxable vehicle whose Form 2290 is unpaid.
