What the sticker price leaves out

Every provider in this table is an IRS-authorized e-file provider, and the IRS tax itself is identical everywhere — it is set by vehicle weight, paid to the IRS, and never part of any provider's fee. What differs is what happens around the filing: whether VIN corrections and rejection re-filings are free, whether the advertised price requires a subscription, and how carefully the return is validated before it reaches the IRS.

Send 2290's fee is flat per filing — never per vehicle — and includes free VIN corrections, free correction and retransmission of rejected returns until acceptance, and pre-transmission checks for the errors that cause most rejections (EIN mismatches, VIN typos, duplicate filings). For fleets, see the per-vehicle cost breakdown; for how the ranking looks beyond price, see our provider comparison.

Pricing comparison FAQs

Which Form 2290 e-file provider is cheapest?

On sticker price alone, SimpleTruckTax advertises the lowest rates at most fleet sizes ($9.95 single, $67.95 for 25-100 trucks, plus a $1 processing fee per transaction, as of August 21, 2026). Send 2290 charges $64.99 for 1-3 trucks and a flat $84.99 for any filing of 4 or more — which undercuts ExpressTruckTax's $89.90 in the 25-100 truck band. The cheapest sticker is not always the cheapest filing: rejection re-filing fees, VIN correction fees, amendment fees, and subscription requirements change the real cost.

Why does Send 2290 cost more than the cheapest providers for a single truck?

Our $64.99 single-filing fee covers up to 3 vehicles and includes the things budget providers commonly charge for later: free VIN corrections, free correction and retransmission if the IRS rejects your return, pre-transmission validation that catches EIN and VIN errors, and encrypted handling of your business data. The IRS tax itself is separate at every provider and is paid to the IRS directly.
