Where Florida wants your Schedule 1
Florida puts the requirement in statute: section 320.02(7), F.S. requires every owner of a vehicle at 55,000 pounds GVW or more to present proof of Form 2290 filing or payment when applying for registration. You present it to your county tax collector, who acts as an FLHSMV agent and views the original at the counter.
Whichever counter you end up at, the document is the same: the Schedule 1 the IRS returns after processing your Form 2290, either manually stamped or carrying the e-file watermark. E-filing returns it within minutes, which matters when registration or a plate renewal is waiting on it.
Flat heavy-truck tag fees, and the "goat" plate
Florida charges flat annual heavy truck fees by weight bracket, and the federal 55,000-pound line falls in the middle of that ladder. The state also has a statutory "goat" plate at $7.50 for grove and farm crop trucks — a state fee break that does not touch the federal HVUT.
Apportioned (IRP) registration in Florida
If you run in two or more jurisdictions, you register through the International Registration Plan rather than as a purely intrastate vehicle. In Florida that is handled by FLHSMV Bureau of Commercial Vehicle and Driver Services (850-617-3711). Proof of HVUT payment is part of the IRP application and renewal — an apportioned account cannot add a taxable vehicle whose Form 2290 is unpaid.
